This patient was a TV screen actor that had an existing fixed bridge for a missing tooth. She was unhappy with the shape, shade and appearance of this tooth. After detailed discussions we decided to upgrade this with a Maryland bridge.
A Maryland bridge is a special type of bridge where a missing tooth is replaced with a ceramic tooth with a “wing” extension that is bonded onto the back of a neighboring tooth.
This is achieved with little to no drilling of the tooth and this is the easiest and most conservative non-surgical approach that is routinely used to replace a missing tooth in the anterior smile, also many times used as a short, medium term fixed temporary option when looking to replace a front tooth with an implant when you need a fixed option for a bridge without the drilling of any natural teeth.
